As soon as I heard that Sketchfab was making many of its models available to be viewed and interacted with in augmented reality (AR) through its mobile app, I had to check it out. It utilizes the ARKit framework, which requires iOS 11 and at a minimum, the A9 Apple processor. SketchAR was an interesting app that I recently encountered and thought I would check it out.  The company’s promo video highlights its use of augmented reality to basically trace an the AR image onto a physical surface like a sheet of paper. Vuforia has proven to be a very powerful tool for developing augmented reality interaction with Unity and mobile apps. My tests of Vuforia with Unity have been really successful and the workflow is really streamlined. After identifying a model and a tracker, the Vuforia package from its developer portal provides the link to the developer account where the tracker is stored. Unity Cloud Build

Unity Cloud Build

If you’re using Unity, definitely check out its Unity Cloud Build service. I was testing it out to build an AR model and it seems to streamline a lot of the workflow, especially the iOS build part. There was a bit of a setup to link Unity with a git repository and then to the Cloud Build service, but once the iOS app developer info was input, it built the app ready to drag & drop to the mobile device.
